Welcome to Strings of Grace Guitar — where my faith and my love for fingerstyle guitar come together.
I’m Ara Catchatoorian, a musician, singer-songwriter, worship leader, and lifelong guitarist who’s been playing for over three decades. What started as a personal passion of introducing and teaching guitar to my own children and relatives has grown into a calling: helping others discover the joy of playing guitar.
Over the years, I’ve focused on refining my fingerstyle technique and arranging music that speaks to both my heart and heritage — from Christian hymns and praise songs to Armenian folk, American classics and children’s music.
Whether playing for family at a holiday gathering, hanging out with friends, playing at a local open-mic night, on-stage for a large audience, on-line, or in a professional studio, it takes dedication, routine practice, courage and confidence to perform in front of others.
My greatest joy is seeing students grow in confidence as they learn to play skillfully and joyfully, while developing life-long learning skills.
At Strings of Grace Guitar, I focus on:
Building solid technique, tone, and fingerstyle foundation
Learning chords, scales, theory, and rhythm
Developing confidence through practice and performance

Its recommended to have your own guitar for practice, but I have spare guitars for lessons.
Strings of Grace Guitar welcomes students of all ages from young children ages 7 and up to adults and seniors.
Proficiency depends greatly on the individual's practice and dedication. Most students see notable improvements within a few months of consistent lessons and practice, but mastering the guitar is an ongoing, rewarding journey.
Absolutely! While I specialize in acoustic guitar, I am fully equipped to teach electric guitar and can guide you through different styles and techniques specific to playing electric.
It is critical to develop dexterity and control of your individual fingers early in your learning process. Lessons will typically start gradually with soft strumming, then move on to using guitar picks, fingerstyle, hybrid picking (fingerstyle while using pick), and on to thumb-pick fingerstyle.
Strings of Grace Guitar focuses on building a strong foundation on technique, tone, chords, scales, progressions, theory and rhythm, all of which can be applied to a variety of genre's including classical, folk, blues, rock, country, and bluegrass.
To cancel or reschedule a lesson, please notify me at least 24 hours in advance. Once signed up, you will received automated text reminders to which you can also respond with a cancellation or reschedule request.
Yes, I organize seasonal recitals and local music events for students to showcase their skills.

Absolutely not, but understand that as a musician that is Christian, worship leader there are certain styles or songs that I will not encourage or teach.
As a Believer in Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior and God's word as written in the Bible, musicians are called upon the Lord and mentioned in over 100 verses. Since Biblical times, musicians have been called upon as leaders, presenting music and singing as a form of worship, a way to express joy, sorrow, and praise. My favorite verse of all, Psalms 33:3 calls upon musicians to “Sing to Him a new song; play skillfully, and shout for joy.”
OpenBible.info has a great list of 100 verses that address musicians specifically.
